At TeamKids, the safety and wellbeing of children are at the heart of everything we do. This responsibility influences how we recruit, train, support and continually develop our team members, ensuring they are equipped to provide high-quality care for children every day.

Safe Recruitment and Onboarding

Before any TeamKids team member can commence work with children, they must successfully complete our comprehensive recruitment and onboarding process.

This includes verification of all required qualifications and child safety clearances, which are continuously monitored by a dedicated Quality & Compliance Team. Depending on their location, team members must hold and maintain the relevant state-based clearance, including:

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC) in Victoria and New South Wales
  • Blue Card in Queensland
  • Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration in the ACT

In addition, all Educators complete mandatory child safety and child protection training relevant to their state before working their first shift with TeamKids.

No team member is permitted to work with children until they have successfully completed TeamKids’ internal induction program, which introduces our child safe expectations, policies, procedures and culture.

Ongoing Professional Development

Creating and maintaining a child safe environment requires continuous learning. Our commitment to team member education extends well beyond onboarding and includes ongoing professional development throughout every team member’s employment.

Examples of this ongoing training and support include:

  • Dedicated professional development days for Directors of Service each term
  • Regular workshops, meetings and training sessions focused on child safety, wellbeing and best practice
  • Access to TeamKids’ internal learning and resource portal
  • Child safety guidance, resources and support provided by our Child Safeguarding & Wellbeing Manager
  • Opportunities for reflection, collaboration and learning through weekly team meetings

Ongoing Supervision and Support

Training is only one part of creating a child safe organisation. TeamKids also provides ongoing supervision and coaching to ensure safe practices are embedded in everyday interactions with children.

Our operational structure includes:

  • Dedicated and trained Regional Managers who regularly visit services to observe practice, provide feedback and support positive relationships with children
  • Experienced mentors who guide and coach team members in understanding and applying child safe practices
  • Regular opportunities for feedback, reflection and continuous improvement

By combining rigorous recruitment processes, mandatory training, ongoing professional development and active supervision, TeamKids ensures our team members have the knowledge, skills and support needed to provide safe, positive and engaging environments for every child in our care.
